The cooperative vocation of our workshop is to allow people to work on personal projects by providing space, equipment, and technical support. L’Atelier La Coulée was designed around two techniques of artistic and artisanal metalwork: namely art casting and welding. The 1950 square-foot workshop is divided according to the different stages of work involved in the realization of a work or project in bronze, aluminum or steel.
A sculpture space of 300 square feet for working with wax and other materials to create an original work of art.
A molding space of 200 square feet.

Please advise the workshop manager of your presence and discuss your project when you arrive. This will help ensure the feasibility of your proposal and facilitate the sharing of the workshop between members.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times when required for operations. It is strongly recommended to wear work boots, hearing protectors, a mask, and gloves when necessary. Safety glasses are MANDATORY at all times in the big Coulée. Eyeglasses are not a substitute for safety glasses.
The respect of the dress code is necessary to ensure the protection of the users. Closed shoes, long pants and natural fiber clothing are mandatory at all times in the workshops. In addition, the wearing of scarves, pendants, jewelry and having loose hair is prohibited. We strongly suggest wearing a lab coat and tight-fitting work clothes. Please leave any flammable objects (e.g. lighter, synthetic clothing, etc.) in the locker room.
It is strongly suggested to always be in the presence of another person in the workshops since this enables you to call for help in case of an accident. Always be alert and aware of your environment and the presence of other members when you work. La Coulée is a common workspace. Remember not to monopolize tools and equipment so that everyone can use the facilities equitably.
In order to protect yourself against accidents, equipment breakdowns as well as to adopt good work habits, please refer to the shop manager to answer your questions before using a machine and/or tool. La Coulée encourages the exchange of knowledge and collaboration. Do not hesitate to ask for and offer help.
All guards and protectors installed on equipment have a purpose and do not prevent the normal use of the equipment. Guards should never be removed or modified. If it is necessary to remove a guard or protector for any reason, be sure to take the tool out of service (tag, disconnect, etc.), follow the maintenance procedure for the tool, and replace the guard or protector before using it.
A functional and safe workshop is a well-equipped and tidy one. All tools must be returned to their respective places at the end of each use and ongoing or completed projects must be stored in the designated areas or taken home. All tools belonging to La Coulée must not leave the workshop under any circumstances.
A safe workshop is a clean and tidy workshop. There must be no unattended portable tools connected to the power supply. All tools must be returned to their respective places and a complete clean-up of the work surfaces and floors must be done at the end of each use.
Never use the workshop if your body or mind is altered. Anyone who does not seem fit to work (alcohol, drugs, medication, or fatigue) risks immediate expulsion by a workshop manager.
The use of appropriate language and a respectful attitude is essential to ensure a good work environment on the shop floor. Homophobic, transphobic, sexist, racist, racist, capacitive and other comments will not be tolerated. While we encourage the sharing of knowledge among members, La Coulée's mission is to facilitate access to under-represented people in the metalworking field. Please keep in mind, therefore, that unsolicited help and/or advice may sometimes seem inappropriate or even intrusive (mansplaining).
Any injury, even slight, must be reported to the workshop manager. The shop manager must be informed so that it does not happen again and so that a record of the incident is kept in the health and safety logbook.
