Le groupe de recherche sur les matérialités éco et socio responsable en Fonderie d’art est issu d’une pratique de recherche collaborative de longue date entre les artistes Antoine Caron et Athanasia Blounas, membres fondateurs et fondatrices de l’Atelier la Coulée et est rendu possible grâce au soutien du CALQ et du CAM. L’attention du groupe de recherche est présentement retenue par deux matérialités inhérentes au médium de la fonderie d’art : le métal soit le bronze et la cire. L’objectif est de développer des recettes de cire et un alliage de bronze qui respecteraient un certain nombre de critères arbitraires préalablement définis et qui en feraient des matérialités « éco et socio responsable ».

Pour construire l’alliage de bronze, nous utilisons des métaux recyclés. Entre autres en créant des partenariats intersectoriels et interdisciplinaires. Ces partenariats incluent, par exemple, des centres d’arts imprimés, tels que l’Imprimerie et l’Atelier Circulaire. Pour développer l’aspect de la réflexion collective qui doit nécessairement accompagner le projet, nous avons aussi créé des partenariats avec différents organismes soit MÉDIANE | Chaire de recherche du Canada en arts et écotechnologies de pratiques et le centre de diffusion l’Écart à Rouyn-Noranda.

The research group on eco- and socio-responsible materialities in art foundry is the result of a long-standing collaborative research practice between artists Antoine Caron and Athanasia Blounas, founding members of Atelier la Coulée, and is made possible thanks to the support of CALQ and CAM. The research group’s attention is currently focused on two materialities inherent to the medium of art foundry: metal, i.e. bronze, and wax. The objective is to develop wax recipes and a bronze alloy that would respect a certain number of previously defined arbitrary criteria and that would make them « eco- and socio-responsible » materialities.

To create the bronze alloy, we use recycled metals. This is achieved, among other things, by creating intersectoral and interdisciplinary partnerships. These partnerships include, for example, print arts centers such as Imprimerie and Atelier Circulaire. To develop the collective reflection aspect that must necessarily accompany the project, we have also created partnerships with various organizations, including MÉDIANE | Canada Research Chair in Arts and Ecotechnologies of Practice and the Écart dissemination center in Rouyn-Noranda.
