Introduction to art foundry

Taught by Antoine Caron and Athanasia Blounas, this course is an introduction to the lost wax casting process, more specifically the ceramic shell technique. It is an opportunity to explore and experiment with a fairly technical process – which can have its share of surprises and unforeseen events – while maintaining an artistic and collegial approach. It will be possible to cast one or multiple objects in bronze or aluminum.

Combining technique and creation, you will witness the transformation of the materials, from the wax positive to the patinas, including a moment of adrenaline when the time comes to cast the molten material. You will learn about each of the steps: the wax positive, the casting path systems, the molding of the objects in ceramic shells, the melting and casting, the finishing and the patinas. You will have the opportunity to exhibit your creations at the annual members’ exhibition.
